Chateau La Serre

Just two hundred metres away from the city walls, La Serre is close to its prestigious neighbor Pavie Macquin, Troplong Mondot, Trottevieille and further east, Ausone. According to legend, the name comes from its ideal full south orientation. Bought in 1950s by the family of current owner Luc d’Arfeuille, La Serre has a 7 ha vineyard on the limestone St-Emilion plateau.
I have just tasted the 2006 vintage:
Vintage: 2006
Grape: 80% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc
ABV: 13.5%
Price: HK$390
Tasting Date: 3 December 2011
Wineshark Score: 88

Fairly deep ruby in colour, this St-Emilion GCC has a reasonable intensity and developing aromas of blackberry, plum, cranberry, liquorice, smoke, cedar and pepper. Medium in acidity and fairly high in tannin, the wine has a medium body, with reasonable intensity of blackberry, plum, pepper, smoke, cedar in flavor. Overall of good quality, it has nothing exceptionally outstanding or wrong. A reasonable length accompanies the finish. Ready to drink now but can potentially further age for another 4-6 years.
