Wineshark Go Hiking - Hong Kong Trail Section 7 – Tai Tam Road to To Tei Wan 港島徑(第七段)大潭道至土地灣

Difficulty: 2/5

Distance: 6.93 km

From: Tai Tam Road

To: To Tei Wan

Transportation:
  • Take NWFB No. 14 departing from Sai Wan Ho heading to Stanley Fort, alight at Tai Tam Reservoir (North)
  • Return by taking NWFB No. 9 at To Tei Wan station heading to Shau Kei Wan
Date: 23 Jan 2021

After walking down the short flight of steps to the catchwater area, the majority of the trail is flat and well-paved concrete, very easy to walk. This section of HK Trail has the distance posts starting from H069 to H084.

With most of the trail shaded, it is quite comfortable even on a sunny day. But the height of the vegetation did block the view to the sea, and it was only at certain locations one can catch a nice view of the Tai Tam Harbour and Tai Tam Tuk on the other side.

On the catchwater if one paid attention there are actually quite a lot of interesting animals, and on the day I saw a large centipede, a small snake and a little egret. Just take a slower pace and be alert to the surroundings there are a lot of treasures to be found.

After a while you will hear more activities coming from the villages on the seaside, as we pass Lan Nai Wan Tsuen, Tung Ah Tsuen, Tung Ah Pui Tsuen, and Ngan Hang Tsuen. There is a path leading down to Ngan Hang Tsuen for those who want to take a look.

Then the trail starts to get rough, and for a short section it becomes unpaved, but would not be posing much challenge to most people. After this section the trail continues to lead down to To Tei Wan, where there is a cafe to relax, enjoy some food and drinks.

But instead we moved on and took the steps leading up back to Shek O Road. This is the most tiring part of the whole section, but the steps are well paved so it is just purely taxing on your stamina but without any difficulty. And remember to take a last look at Tai Tam Bay before leaving.
