Wineshark Go Hiking - Hong Kong Trail Section 4 – Wan Chai Gap to Wong Nai Chung Gap 港島徑(第四段) 灣仔峽至黃泥涌峽

Difficulty: 2/5

Distance: 7.09 km

From: Wan Chai Gap

To: Wong Nai Chung Gap

Date: 13 Nov 2020

Transportation:
  • Take NWFB No. 15 departing from Central going to The Peak, alight at Wan Chai Gap Road, then walk along Aberdeen Reservoir Road for about 0.45 km to the start of Section 4
  • Return by taking CityBus No. 6 departing from Stanley Market going to Central, at Tai Tam Reservoir Road

The initial part of the trail is very comfortable, walking under good shades inside the hills on dirt path, with the trail flat and easy to walk. There are a few tiny waterfalls along the way too.

Continuing along the way one would pass several stone bridges, and there is also a large pond where one can actually walk down from the side of the trail.

Soon on the left you will find a bunker which I believe was built during the war, but the windows were all covered up. Further along there is another one which after climbing up a few feet you can see a couple of air-holes and allowing a peek inside.

On the right we can see Brick Hill and Ocean Park, and walking a bit further there is a crossroad, and taking the left one going up the flight of steps, one will reach Middle Gap Road. This is the most tiring part of the trail, with uphill winding road without shades so can be draining especially in summer.

But soon you can see a branch leading to the right, and instead of further up taking this path begins the more relaxing section.

With good pace very soon you will arrive at the Middle Gap Viewing Point, providing a nice look at Brick Hill and the surrounding area of Wong Chuk Hang.

Very soon the dirt trail ends and continuing along concrete roadway towards Wong Nai Chung Gap, the road then joins Black's Link. Walking downhill now, buildings start to come into view and would start one to think of how luxurious it is to live in this part of Hong Kong, with the large houses having the splendid views.

Reaching the end and joining Deep Water Bay Road, and turning left you will see the bus stop. Crossing the road and walk up a bit on Tai Tam Reservoir Road, you will see Wong Nai Chung Reservoir on your right, the end of Section 4.
