Transportation:

  • Take CityBus No. 7 alight at Hoy Au Lau, Yue Kwong Chuen bus stop, then walk uphill along Aberdeen Reservoir Road to entrance of Aberdeen Country Park. Continue along the right path to reach the dam of Aberdeen Lower Reservoir
  • After crossing the main dam of Aberdeen Upper Reservoir, turn left and walk along the Aberdeen Fitness Trail back to the starting point, and then return to the entrance of Aberdeen Country Park and downhill to Aberdeen Reservoir Road to Yue Kwong Road Shek Pai Wan Terminus to take CityBus No. 7 back

Starting from the dam and looking down one can see many fish as well as a few large turtle swimming in the Aberdeen Lower Reservoir, which used to be privately owned by a papermill, before the government took over to modify it to become part of the Aberdeen Valley Water Scheme, starting to be used in 1932.

Crossing the dam there is a large signpost of the Aberdeen Nature Trail, and walking along the level and well-paved trail is no effort, suitable for people of all ages. Soon there is an overlook where one can see the typhoon shelter in Aberdeen as well as the buildings in the background, from Marina South on the left, to Lei Tung Estate on the right.

Soon there is a fork and following the direction towards Aberdeen Lower Reservoir, the trail continues to surround the reservoir. It is a comfortable walk as there are plenty of shades, with also good diversity of flora and fauna, and there are signposts indicating and explaining some of those to make the hiking exercise also educational.

Reaching the other end of the lower reservoir, there are a short section of steps leading up and the path quickly re-joins with Aberdeen Tree Walk. Turning left very soon is the end of this trail, the main dam of Aberdeen Upper Reservoir, where there are a few huge Koi swimming in the water.

Crossing the dam and turning left there is a flight of steps leading down to the Aberdeen Fitness Trail, along the way one can take a good look at the main dam. When it opens to allow water to flow to the lower reservoir it would be a great scene. Then continue along the path surrounding the lower reservoir will return back to the starting point of the nature trail.

A very easy walk with shades almost all the way, as well as very close to the city centre, this is a good choice for people of all ages.
