Wineshark Go Hiking - Hok Tau Country Trail 鶴藪郊遊徑

Difficulty: 2/5

Total Distance: 2.48 km

Starting Point: Hok Tau BBQ Site

End Point: Hok Tau BBQ Site

Date: 9 Oct 2020

Transportation:
  • Take green minibus no. 52B departing from Fanling Train Station to Hok Tau, alight at Hok Tau BBQ Site.
  • Return by taking the same minibus 52B back to Fanling Train Station.

After parking the car at the Hok Tau BBQ Site, this trail is only across the road. Passing through the archway and turning left is the flight of stone steps going up.

The ascend is not too tiring, especially with the breeze on the day. Very soon one will reach the highest point on this hill at 134m, with the steps turning to a wide path. You will also see the distance post C2101, which helps you find your location and each of them is separated by a distance of 500m.

Further ahead is the viewing point, where one can see Fanling, Ta Kwu Ling and the further Shenzhen. On the background the highest mountain is Wu Tung Shan, with the signature broadcasting station up high.

Starting the descend through the stone steps, one needs to be just a bit careful and generally the way is easy. Continuing the way, you will walk underneath the power grid lines, and on the right is the village of Hok Tau Pai and Sze Tau Leng Tsuen.

On the way you will find the second distance post C2102 and continue down the steps and path very soon you will reach a concrete path. Turning left will bring you to Tan Chuk Hang but we will head right to Hok Tau Pai.

This section is the easiest, flat and all concrete, though without much shade. You will also find the distance post C2103. On the two sides of the path there are farms and some of them actually do sell vegetables and if interested, one can stop by to buy some.

Seeing the different types of vegetable, and at one of the farm we even see some rice being grown. In fact this place is very famous for its pak choi, which is said to be having much less 'green' taste compared with other species. Hope we can try some of these in near future.

Reaching the end of the concrete path, it joins Hok Tau Road and if you still want to do more hiking, turning left will lead to Hok Tau Reservoir. Turning right will return you to the starting point of this trail, Hok Tau BBQ Site.
