Wineshark HK Restaurant Review - Sang Kee Foods

Located in Sai Ying Pun, this small eatery which specialized in brine foods has a long history in the neighborhood, where a lot of Chiuchow migrants used to live. So generally it gave me the confidence that the quality of its brine food should not be bad. When we arrived the first impression I got was it was meant for takeaway, as there are only two and a half tables for dine-in. Fortunately we came quite early in the evening so we could get a table straightaway.

We ordered the signature Brine Goose Slices, adding also two Eggs and Goose Liver. The sauce was nice, having the fragrance of spices and rice wine. The goose meat has the right fat level, with the meat juicy and tender. The Bean Curd accompanying however may have absorbed a bit too much of the sauce so is more salty than I prefer.

The Eggs are tasty but also a bit too salty as well, and the liver is rich but not particularly impressive. So if I have to rate all of them, the goose slices are what I would recommend.

Throughout the meal there was a lot of customers coming to buy takeaway, and many of them the staff could call out by name. A friendly neighborhood eatery for sure, even though the setting is a bit dirty and not exactly comfortable. The total price on the night was $220 which was quite expensive however.

My overall rating is 48/100.
