Wineshark Go Hiking - Fung Hang Family Walk 鳳坑家樂徑

Difficulty: 1/5

Total Distance: 2.17 km

From: Kai Kuk Shue Ha 雞谷樹下

To: Car Park beside Nam Hang Mei 南坑尾旁停車場

Date: 8 Aug 2020

Transportation:

  • Take Green Minibus No. 56K from Fanling Station heading to Luk Keng. Alight at the terminus and walk towards the starting point at Kai Kuk Shue Ha.
  • Return by walking on Bride's Pool Road towards Kai Kuk Shue Ha and take the Green Minibus No. 56K back to Fanling.
Originally we planned to park at the public parking near Luk Keng, but seeing they were full already we decided to park at the end-point of today's trail, then walk down Bride's Pool Road to Kai Kuk Shue Ha. Along the way we saw many Lance-leaved Sterculia. Why I mentioned this? Because the Chinese name is 假蘋婆, and I did a dish with the 'real' one called Ping-pong the week before.

Soon we reached the village and going along the path on the water-front very soon you will see the mangroves, and continuing the background of Sha Tou Kok comes into view. On this side of the harbor there is a quiet and tranquility which is a good contrast of the development across the border.

Then you will see a fork in the path, one leading up towards the family walk while the other continuing along the water-front. Following the sign and walking underneath the big arch, you will walk up the well-paved step steps uphill. But be careful after raining those could be quite slippery.

After walking sometime you will reach a viewpoint, and going up there is an even better scene of the Sha Tou Kok area. Returning back to the trail, there are plenty of interesting plants and fungus you can find, and I also noticed there were a lot of grasshoppers, so many that I have never seen in my previous hikes.

Further along there is another viewing point where one can see the Pak Sin Leng, with a clear signpost showing the eight different peaks. Continuing along the trail in this summer time there are many plants with nice big flowers and it is good to take a time to enjoy the beautiful scenes, before going downhill and coming to the end of the trail, where we had parked our car.

Very easy and despite having to go up and downhill, the path are well-paved, easy to walk and suitable for all ages. The only thing to watch out is the slippery stone steps during wet weather which could be a bit dangerous, so ideally do come at the drier season.
