This restaurant is located at the Peak, with the site used to be a shelter for the carriers of sedan chair, the main transport for residents in the old days. Then it turned to a restaurant from 1947, called Peak Cafe, and by 2001 the building was renovated to offer its heritage with a nice indoor ambiance, with lots of photos and interior design featuring the colonial times of the city, as well as continuing to leverage the large outdoor terrace overlooking Aberdeen.
On the night it was very windy and foggy so we opted to stay indoor. We decided to start with the Peak Lookout Combo Platter ($548), featuring Thai spring rolls, smoked salmon naan, Buffalo wings, Indian samosas, poached prawns, and chicken quesadillas. A big plate that is suitable for two to three people, the appetizers were all nice, with different sauces paired. I particularly liked the smoked salmon naan, with the pesto sauce complementing perfectly with the salmon, and the naan having the soft yet chewy texture.
Because the platter was so large we had room for only a main course. Recommended by the staff, we had the Tandoori Sea Bass ($298). It included three large pieces of fish, served on a sizzling hot plate with lots of onion and green bell pepper underneath. Squeezing in some lemon juice, the fish was seasoned nicely with the herbs, intense on flavours yet also able to highlight the taste of the sea bass. There was a Naan provided but that was too oily in my opinion and I would prefer a drier and less sweet in taste.
With two bottles of still water ($140) and a hot ginger lemon ($72), the bill on the night was $1164. Quite expensive considering we only have essentially two dishes, but the food quality was nice. The environment was also nice and if the weather permits sitting outdoor would be quite amazing.
