Wineshark Japan Journey - Garden Terrace Saga ガーデンテラス佐賀

After leaving Saga Balloon Museum, we drove to the Saga City Cultural Museum, intending to visit the historic buildings and Café Romanza in the former Koga Bank. However, we were disappointed to find the place closed for renovation until end March. As a result, we drove to Garden Terrace Saga to check-in earlier than the original plan.

The hotel had a contemporary look from the outside, and walking through the door was the reception and lobby. On the other side was glass doors leading to the garden and pool. The staff quickly helped us to complete the registration and  took us to our room, located on 6/F.

There were 28 rooms in the hotel, and Room 601 was a suite, the best room in the hotel and also the only room on the top floor, spanning 108 sqm in size. Entering, on the left was the toilet, on the right was the dining and living room, while the sliding doors in the middle led straight to the bedroom, with two comfortable queen-sized beds, and a very high ceiling.

The other end of the bedroom led to the walk-in closet, with a make-up table and open closets. The windows here looked out to the parking area.

The dining room was very spacious, with a large dining table that could accommodate four people. The mini-kitchen had a sink and also full-size refrigerator, with all the beverages and snacks being complimentary.

The sliding glass windows at the dining room went out to the balcony where one could take a moment to enjoy the peaceful Saga city view, with very few high-rise buildings.

The living room had a comfortable sofa, with a high quality TV and audio system providing good entertainment during the stay. The exceptional high ceiling made the whole space even bigger in feeling.

Connecting from the living room was the make-up room, with premium amenities offered. There was also a bottle of sake provided with instructions for guests to show how to prepare a sake bath.

The bathroom had shower and bathtub, and led also to the private terrace.

On the terrace there was an open-air jacuzzi bath, with also outdoor seating. On a good clear night, one could enjoy the star views, while there was also a folding umbrella in case of rain.

As my wife was still mulling over not able to enjoy afternoon tea at Café Romanza, it was a pleasant surprise that the staff told us that they had prepared some cakes for us. Opening the refrigerator, we took out the box, and inside were eight very beautiful cakes! We had a great time savouring the delicious cake with the free beverages, having to remind ourselves to save some space for the teppanyaki dinner on the night.

After settling things in the room, we took a walk around the hotel, there was an outdoor pool measuring 13m x 4m running along the side of the hotel. On the side of the pool there was also a sauna for guest use.

Apart from the swimming pool, there was also a fitness room with treadmills and other equipment.

The club lounge was exclusive for hotel guests, with a sake and tea bar, as well as other snacks to enjoy in the comfortable sofas. Apart from having conversations, there were some magazines and books, as well comics of Saga authors, prompting guests to spend a relaxing time there.

After dinner we went back to look at the pool, with the lights creating a nice ambience. It was unfortunate the weather was too cold to take a swim, otherwise it would be good to enjoy a dip before going to bed.

Waking up to a bright and sunny day, we had to thank for the good weather as there would be a bit of outdoor walking coming up. After tidying up we went down to Saga Chikusai for breakfast.

Seated at a different spot on the C-shaped counter, we both opted for Japanese breakfast.

Simple yet delicious, with everything in good quality, the breakfast included salad with Japanese dressing, Spanish mackerel, thick tamagoyaki, simmered bamboo shoots with dried bonito, green beans with sesame sauce, Kanpei lotus root, natto, pickles, Saga Biyori rice, and miso soup with eggplant and mushroom.

We also ordered squid dumpling as well, which was very good.

The overall experience of the stay was excellent. Service was very good, with the hotel room spacious, clean, and very comfortable. The generous provision of beverages and snacks in the room and in the club lounge, and the super delicious and beautiful cakes arranged for us was definitely memorable. The teppanyaki dinner was just amazing, while the breakfast was more simple but still tasty. The total bill was 204,900 yen and it was not cheap, but did worth every penny in my opinion.
