Wineshark HK Restaurant Review - Ying Kee

This eatery is located in San Po Kong, in an old district where there were a lot of small restaurants offering good value and delicious food to the neighborhood. Ying Kee is one of such, and also earning the Michelin Bib Gourmand in 2016. A typical no-frill style, the decor is simple but relatively clean and tidy.

I ordered the signature Wonton Noodle ($44), and including in the set there was also a drink and vegetable. The noodle had a nice bite and the soup also tasty, prepared in the traditional way with plenty of dried flatfish, rich in umami flavors. The wontons were great too, with fillings of crunchy shrimp and the right balance of pork meat. One of the better wonton noodles I had tried in Hong Kong and a bravo the restaurant. My wife had ordered the Beef Ball and Beef Tendon Rice Noodle ($35) and it was equally tasty.

Interestingly at the entrance there is a section selling snacks like siu mai and dumplings. Mostly for takeaways, you can also buy them to enjoy it in the restaurant, but having to pay them upfront. I had the Siu Mai and Chiu Chow Dumplings ($22), with the dumplings decent but the siu mai not up to standard. I would suggest you can skip these but instead order another wonton or soup dumpling.

There were a lot of photos showing celebrities eating in the restaurant, so apparently it was very well known. But I also experience a lot of friendly neighborhood atmosphere. The restaurant also offers marinated turnip as condiment for free. Overall it was of great value for money and I recommend you to try it out.
