The vineyard has a history that can date back to the Roman times. Situated at the north-eastern side of St-Emilion, Chateau Soutard has 22ha and is a medium size vineyard in the commune. The chateau was once the summer house of the Soutard family, and the current owner Des Ligneris focused on improving the ageing potential of the wine. Also, they have been true to the belief of his own viniculture and vinification process irrespective of how wine critics say. In the commercial world nowadays it is rather rare.

Dark ruby colour with medium intensity and developing aromas of blackberry, pepper, smoke, slight vanilla, sweet spice, plum and violet, this St-Emilion GCC has medium acidity and a supple, medium tannin. Medium body with medium intensity flavors of blackberry, white pepper, plum, cloves, oak, slight vanilla and vegetal. Overall of acceptable quality with relatively simple nose and palate, and the intensity and length falling short, yet still quite an easy-to-drink wine. Ready to drink now and has potential to ageing of another 3-5 years.
