Seeing that many hotels are offering discounts for locals to boost sales, I decided to take a couple of days off and relax at InterContinental Hong Kong. Arriving at noon and after check-in I decided to have a quick lunch, going to Lobby Lounge, which offers a nice harbour view, comfortable seating and relaxing ambiance. On the flip side, however, the sofa and lounge table is not very suitable for dining.
As the hotel package included a complimentary drink, I decided to order the Young Master Contemporary Pilsner. This is a local craft beer started in 2013, with a range of different types of beer. The pilsner has a classic flavor, with a clean and crisp base and hops that are not very bitter. The glass is also specially designed with a watermark to show where the foam should start to have the right balance of beer and foam. A nice beer.
I ordered a Lobster Thermidor Burger ($390) while my wife had the Hainan Chicken Rice ($330). The burger is fairly large, between the soft buns there are big chunks of lobster, with the thermidor sauce on top of lettuce, tomato and diced carrot. Good in taste, there is also some freshly fried French fries which are a good complement.
The chicken rice, according to my wife, is also very good, with the chicken rich in flavors, and the three dipping sauces (ginger, soy sauce and chili) closely matching the Singaporean style. The pickles on the side, as well as the rice and soup themselves, also deliver to the expectation. Always a safe bet in such restaurant, this one certainly did not disappoint.
The bill overall was $684, as we got the free drink and a 15% discount for in-house guests. Not cheap but if you don't want to have the crowd at Harbourside eating buffet, and want something light and simple, Lobby Lounge is not a bad choice.
