Wineshark HK Restaurant Review - Nojo


This Japanese ramen restaurant is located on the ground floor of H Code on Pottinger Street in Central. Originally I booked for dinner but having to cancel because of typhoon, I come again this Sunday for lunch. 


The restaurant offers customers a choice of outdoor and indoor seating. Picking the latter for obvious reason under such hot weather, we were seated on the counter facing the window looking out to the famous Stone Slab Street, with a modern and casual ambience. But if you fancy looking at the chefs in action you can also choose to sit in front of the open kitchen.


I have the Soy Sauce Ramen ($138), with the rich, tasty chicken broth that is not oily and overly salty. There are plenty of onion and leek to increase the fragrance of the soup, and the noodle has a wonderful texture, with good bite and even towards the end do not become soggy. The soft boiled dashi egg and slow-cooked chicken leg are decent in taste but did not provide a wow factor to the whole noodle. Still quite a nice one.


My wife has chosen the Tomato Ramen ($113) with supplementary Soft-Boiled Egg ($18). The soup is again very rich and flavourful, full of tomato essences, and having nice balance of acidity with the sweetness and umami. It might seem lacking a bit of protein if not for the extra order of the eggs.


We also order the Tofu & Avocado Salad ($93) to share, and it is of decent size, with a mix of vegetable, cherry tomatoes, avocado and salad, mixing with some shaved bonito and nori sheet. The salad dressing is quite good and not overpowering the flavours of the ingredients, this is a popular dish by the health-conscious diners. 


Service is decent, but I found the restaurant charges exorbitant prices for its beverages, with a glass of Cold Black Tea costing $48 and a bottle of San Pellegrino sparkling water $78, and the final bill being $537. But the price of the its food is reasonable nevertheless. Perhaps worth visiting in evening to enjoy also a wider range of food on the menu.
