This restaurant is located on 5/F LKF Tower in Central, and is part of Le Comptoir group. It is the only Michelin recommended Bali-inspired restaurant in HK. On the night we came early in the evening, with the restaurant still quiet with only a few customers drinking at the bar.
The décor is certainly nice, with chic ambience of brownish tone featuring lots of bamboo and wood to recreate a feeling of tropical nature. The table tops are made from stone with the chairs also using bamboo and wood. The unique rattan lantern lighting in the middle also a spotlight.
I ordered a mocktail to start, the Balinese Tropical Punch ($88) is mixed from pineapple and orange juice, with passionfruit puree and dash soda. Refreshing, but when you stirred together the juice and soda the flavours were diluted quite a bit to make it bland in taste. Maybe best to adjust the proportion. My wife ordered the Fresh Tropical Young Coconut ($88) which was nice.
For starters, we had Exotic Fruit Salad ($98). Comprising of seasonal fruit including pineapple, green and red apple, dragon fruit and pear, the salad was mixed with tamarind chili sauce and toasted nuts, to give the acidity and flavours, plus the crunchy texture. A vegan dish good for everyone.
Next, we had Satay Sampler ($238), which included 6 skewers of chicken and beef. Grilled to a good char to bring the fragrance and taste, the meat was marinated well, with noticeable herbs and other seasonings, supplemented with the deep-fried shallots on top. Together with the yummy satay sauce, it was another good starter. Personally, I liked the chicken skewers more with the beef a bit too fat.
For the main course we had Pan Seared Seabass ($288). The fish fillet was beautifully seared and seasoned, with the skin crispy while the flesh was not overcooked. The BBQ red curry sauce went well with the fish, offering a slight spicy note to make the dish more complex on the palate. The choy sum was a nice side vegetable, quite young and tender.
We also ordered Chicken Fried Noodles ($148). The noodle was stir-fried at high heat, with an abundance of ingredients like carrot, cucumber, beansprouts, mushroom, and chicken. The portion was good for four people, and the taste was good, but a bit too salty.
Coming to dessert we had Banana Cake ($78), with the cake moist and spongy, good in taste. The caramelized piece of banana on top served as both a decoration and a nice contrast with its crispy bite, and on the side was the coconut sorbet and caramel sauce, with the former helping to balance a bit on the sweetness while the latter allowing us to increase the sweetness by dipping more with the cake. Quite good.
Service was also good, with the staff attentive and friendly, and seeing our plate was dirty from the starters he came to change before serving us the main course. The owner (I presumed) also greeted us warmly when we were leaving, asking us to return often. The bill was $1,151 which might seemed a bit high, but the overall experience was quite nice and if you wanted a good place to enjoy Balinese food, this would be good choice.
