This is the shortest and easiest section of the whole MacLehose Trail, with the distance post covering M116 to M124. The start of the trail is at the intersection of Piper's Hill Road and Tai Po Road.
Crossing Tai Po Road and then walk down Golden Hill Road, soon you will see the Kowloon Reservoir on your right. Continue along the road uphill, this section is quite boring, without any scene and also no shade. The only thing of note is probably the monkeys playing along the road.
Reaching the top of the road there is a branch, with the right path leading to Kam Shan Family Walk. Continuing along Golden Hill Road, this section starts the downhill and with good shades, offering a cooling transition from the earlier part.
Then you will find a branch on the right, with the stone steps leading up. Taking this to continue along Section 6, it is the most 'difficult' portion, there is a short flight of steps which are quite steep, but apart from that, it is still very manageable even for beginners.
On the way you can get a good view of Shek Lei, and further out Tsuen Wan, with the landmark Nina Tower in the background.
Soon you will also be able to see Shing Mun Reservoir. At Smugglers' Ridge, the trail overlaps with Shing Mun War Relics Trail, and one can take a look at the numerous historic war-time facilities, including Shing Mun Redoubt, and several artillery tunnels.
