Difficulty: 1/5
Total Distance: 2.18 km
Starting Point: Hok Tau Reservoir
End Point: Hok Tau Reservoir
Date: 11 Sep 2020
Transportation:
- Take the Green Minibus 52B from Fanling Station going to Hok Tau, and alight at Hok Tau Wai
- Return using the same green minbus 52B back to Fanling Station
We parked the car at Hok Tau BBQ site and then walk down hill towards Hok Tau Wai. But if one is taking the green minibus you can alight at the pavilion directly.
Walking uphill along the road for about 1.8 km without much shade, we arrived at Hok Tau Reservoir and the beginning of the trail. The reservoir is used for irrigation purpose, and while there is some rain earlier in the morning, the blue sky and the beautiful reflection truly gave us joy.
Taking the right path and walk up the steep steps, we started the walk circling around the reservoir. The way is mostly flat, and easy to walk, with good shading too so even in the summer it is not that hot. You will see streams feeding to the reservoir.
After walking for about 1.1 km there is a branch of the trail, with one path leading up towards Sha Lo Tung, and the other continuing along the reservoir. Taking the latter one, very soon you will reach Chu Hang Bridge.
Under the bridge the stream is quite rapid, and apparently this is one of the main feeds to the reservoir. Going down to take a closer look, a little bit further there is a pond, and while the water is a bit murky I could not help to think that it would be perfect to go for a swim.
Continuing further the path becomes the concrete section, and seeing there are some new bamboo plantings along the trail. I guess in another 10 years this section will look quite different and looking forward to coming back then to witness the change.
At the end of the trail there is the sign and then we proceed back on the road heading back to the starting point. Near the end is the dam of the reservoir and after crossing it completed the whole trail and we proceeded downhill back to Hok Tau BBQ site to pick up the car.
All in all this trail is easy to walk, with good shades, and even in hot summer it is comfortable.
