This French neighborhood steakhouse is located in Soho, providing a Parisian brassiere experience to customers with a simple menu that only offers one dish, a green salad followed by steak frites, with bearnaise sauce, plus the optional dessert. The setting is simple, no-frill, with the tables close to each other so not exactly comfortable or private but aiming for that friendly and easy atmosphere.
The green lettuce salad is simple, with pieces of walnut and a light dressing, supplemented with a few radish slices. It is light and refreshing, a good honest starter.
The steak itself is a ribeye, cooked to your required level. I have opted for medium and it was done correctly at the right level. The surface is seared nicely with the caramelized texture while retaining good juicy flesh inside. The beef flavors are pronounced, though I think the seasoning is a bit too salty. But it did pair very well with the bearnaise sauce.
Another point to note is that the steak is served on a metal tray which sits on a tealight, thus keeping it warm while you enjoy it. A nice and thoughtful way to avoid the steak getting cool down and having an oily mouth-feel. The frites on the side is very good, with the size a nice bite, though also a bit too salty.
We then had the dessert and I have chosen the signature tart tatin, which is an upside-down apple tart, with the apple caramelized in butter and sugar before baking. There are some berries on the side with a custard (I believe?) sauce and some cream. Though delicious and not overly sweet, this dessert is a another good highlight of the meal.
With two sets, plus a bottle of water and a mocktail, the price is $924. Quite pricey for a brassiere style restaurant but considering the location it might not be a surprise. The services are nice and friendly which did help to offset this feeling of over-price.
My overall rating is 58/100.
