Wineshark HK Restaurant Review - Canton Pot

This hotpot restaurant is located in Mong Kok, a bit far from the usual busy and crowded area of the district, inside the Lodgewood by L'hotel. When I made the reservation the staff asked for my car number and arriving I can understand, as they only have a few parking spaces for the hotel so they would need to arrange and confirm the parking space in advance if you are driving there for dinner.

The restaurant environment is nice, with a high-end premium tone on the decoration and setting, obviously targeting for the upper-market clientele. On the night it was pretty quiet, and thus we had a table in the corner, with plenty of space, and also having the TV on the side so we can also watch TV while eating.

We ordered the Lobster Hot Pot Set, and the soup base was the Lobster Soup Duo, which essentially was half being tomato and the other half clear broth. Before we started to eat, the staff asked us to sample the soup and it was quite tasty.

The set included quite a range of food, with one whole Lobster which could be eaten sashimi style, one Abalone (though quite small), Giant Clam, American Beef Chuck, Kurobuta Pork, Lobster Ball with Cheese, Mixed Meatballs, Truffle Pork Meatballs, Mixed Mushroom in Tofu Pouches, Morel mushroom and Kurobuta pork dumplings, Crab Roe and Lobster Dumplings, Crispy Bean Curd Rolls, Bamboo Piths, Sweet Potato Noodles and Organic Sweet Corns.

All the above were arranged nicely with an English afternoon tea style setting, and the food was fresh and good. The portion was suitable for two ladies, but for those who had a bigger appetite or two guys it might not be sufficient. However, there were also a Mixed Vegetable Basket so taken that in overall I would still say the portion was decent for a couple.

But as many of you know by now, we could eat quite a lot and thus we ordered two more dishes, one being the Big Clams and the other was Sliced Mongolian Lamb. Both were fresh and good in quality, and I think they were also of reasonable portion size based on the price too.

We had a full stomach but still wanted to sample their dessert, so we also ordered a Double boiled papaya with red dates, $48 lotus seed and silver fungus, while I opted for Pomelo raindrop cake with chilled $48 mango sago cream. My dessert was again good and not overly sweet, which had the effect of cleansing my palate and wrapping the meal with a full completion.

The experience for me was one of quite pleasant, with good environment, nice and fresh food, as well as friendly services. I feel a bit sad to see not that many customers on the night, and the restaurant actually was offering a 25% discount for weekdays visit, obviously showing that they needed to lower the price to attract more customers. The bill on the night was $1195, with the above plus the fee for the condiments as well as three bottles of soft-drinks and a pot of tea. I wouldn't say it was cheap but still considering the overall it was fairly reasonable in price.

My overall rating is 68/100.
